Keep Going.

A friend sent this too me the other day. Sometimes we need to remember to keep going.

About the Last Post

I spend more time cleaning or taking care of my kids while wearing pajama pants than being awesomely styled up. I'm not any good at doing the whole "perfect" thing. I'm also not much for baking. Our interior design is a sparse work in progress constrained by money, talent (or the lack there of) and priority (i.e. sometimes the acne medication or the kids shoes come before the new rug).  I'm kind of burned out on a lot of the things that I see on the internet. So I decided I would do the opposite. Make a little fun telling it like it is. I think it's going to become a regular thing.

The party was a raving success, even if half the guests couldn't make it. Pictures to come.

How did you spend your Presidents' Day? I was in bed, sick.

Randomly

  • We've been all abuzz lately with preparations for this weekends party, which promises to be a good turnout, complete with bow ties.
  • I've dropped off some resumes, and started bugging the Lush shop uptown. I've gotten back two different stories, but I'm not finished. Next: cover letter.
  • I sent out my first article query to babble.com. Still haven't heard back yet, but it's only been a week. I'm still hopeful.
  • I'm working on another article which I'll probably send one of the online knitting magazines. Wish me luck!
  • I'm almost finished with the Sweater That Never Ends. It started out as a B Side Cardigan that could have fit my father (someone roughly three times my size), so I turned it around and started knitting a Greenfield Cardigan from the frog. After 3 months, I just might have a new cardigan this week. I also managed to break my third pair of Knitpicks Interchangeable needles, which drove me to the edge; I'm saving up for a new set of something a little nicer.
  • You're never going to guess what Jason got me for Valentine's Day! I can't wait to show it off as soon as it arrives! I've never had something like this!

Miss Peregrin's Book Review

I just finished reading Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs. (Isn't that a great name?) If you haven't read it yet, you should. I can't think of a thing to say about it that wouldn't be complimentary. Ransom Riggs doesn't waste a single word. It's absolutely magical how clear the imagery comes across, without loss of any love for the language! The story and the design of the book work so well together; they create an experience that is spine-tingling and and intense without being gruesome. It sucks you in so well! I was reading as fast as I could, not only to find out what happens next, but to see what the next picture would be! Concerning the characters, I started to get worried that too many would be introduced, but was pleased to find that each has an important role to fill with each complex personality. I also have to say that this book has possibly the most believable adolescent love story I think I've ever read- my toes were curling! So pick it up. Whatever it is you normally read, pick this book up and devour it!

Scarf-Tastic!

Someone shared this with me today and I loved it so much that I decided to share it with you. A girl's got to have fun with dress-up now and then...

Screw the Ground Hog

Things have never happened to me. Not really- I don't think. I've always had to stick my neck out and make them happen. I think this is why I hate winter. I tend to hold up in my apartment and fret whenever winter rolls around. Needless to say, Cabin Fever is chronic. I've been grateful for the mild weather we've had this year, though it's not been mild enough to get me out a whole lot. I do, however, feel that I've been more motivated this winter than perhaps ever.
It's been a blessing and a curse.
While I do everything I can think of to get my wheels going at my goals, in between milestones is a lot of waiting. And waiting. And restlessness, and more waiting. The hardest part is that I have the motivation to write, but I'm not generating ideas. Screw the groundhog! I'm bored; I need an adventure!
Perhaps tomorrow, when I've applied for a few more jobs or bugged the places I've already applied to.
How do you find adventure?
